Week 7 - Colmena - Real Life Mexico! - July 14, 2025

 Hola Todos!

Me with President and Sister Wallis. They have only been in the mission for 2 weeks!
I finally left the CCM and am actually in my mission!
In the bus with Elder Morales on the way to the mission home
On Wednesday we left to go to the president's house.
All the new missionaries with President and Sister Wallis
We spent the day meeting all the trainers, playing games, and meeting the mission president.
Me and my MTC comp Elder Garner at the mission home
Lunch at the mission home with all the new missionaries and all the trainers.
Last picture with Elder Garner before we go to our own mission areas
After waiting all day, I finally found out who my trainer is! Elder Stoddard.
President and Sister Wallis, me and Elder Stoddard
Elder Stoddard is the goat.
We are in San Isidro which is considered part of Mexico City but is a little northwest of the city.
He's from Oregon, he's on his last transfer but he's putting in the work.
He also plays the guitar and a lot of our conversations are about movies and video games. We like a lot of the same stuff.
My first full day here, all of our lessons canceled other than our food appointment and a member lesson later in the day. Our food appointment was actually super good. I've actually been loving everything I eat here! It's all fire. Except for the jello. They eat jello for every meal. They give you jello when they meet you. They give you jello for the road. So much jello!
I live in the white town houses on the far right. This was taken from the roof of one of our investigators.
I've also learned I have the vocabulary of a 4 year old. We have met with the relief society president a lot and she has a 4 year old daughter that always has a lot to say. She is probably the only person that I fully understand here.

Also I'm learning no one keeps their appointments with us. Both the investigators and the members cancel on us all the time, so we spend a lot of our time calling people hoping to find someone that will meet with us or knocking on doors of random people that met with the missionaries 1 time like a year ago.
We do a lot of our calling and planning from this park near our house
It actually works a lot of the time. Half of our actual lessons have come through that.

It rains a lot here. Every day after like 2 it just starts pouring. My pants are always soaked up to the knee by the end of the day.
There are also a ton of street dogs, none of them have really caused us any problems though. There are also a ton of hills here.
Hills
and hills...
and hills...
and hills...
and hills.
It's funny because they have sidewalks here, but no one uses them because half the time the sidewalk just drops like 3 feet.

P-day today was a lot of fun. We went to a mall and went bowling. Then we went to Costco and got enough food to last us probably till the end of this transfer.
View from the mall
I love you all!
-Elder Robinson

From our phone call:
His house is in a gated area. It has 3 bathrooms and bedrooms but only one of the toilets kind of works, the kitchen sink is broken so they wash dishes in the bathroom sink, they have mostly carpet but no vacuum, the water heater is broken so he showers in cold water. They sent a list of needed repairs to the housing manager at the mission home. He said he loves it all but the cold showers are a little hard!

They eat lunch every day with members or non-members. They all love to feed the missionaries. His first lunch, they were served lentils. When Sam finished his, the member asked if he wanted more. He thought that was the whole lunch so he said he would love more. After he finished, they proceeded to bring out several more dishes of rice, fruit, jello, meat. He was so full by the end! He said they are fed very well at lunch!
