Week 16 - Colmena - Mexican Independence Day - September 15, 2025
Hey everyone! Happy Mexican Independence day!
We'll skip to Wednesday because nothing happened until then.
Wednesday we went to the zone leaders house so I could do exchanges with them. It was kind of a goofy intercambios because the zone leaders had their p-day that day so, I just went over to work at night. We only taught one family, but it was super interesting because I was understanding everything that was going on! I thought Spanish was finally clicking. It wasn't. I stopped understanding halfway through the lesson and I haven't had that happen since. Still pretty cool though!
Thursday I did exchanges with an Elder who is having issues with his companion. It was lit! We had a few lessons, but the last one was super cool. We taught the 10 commandments to this family and they were making jokes (in a fun way) the whole time and just having fun, but every time we asked a question they would immediately switch back to being super spiritual. The spirit was so strong that lesson. The Elder that works in that area told me before hand that I was going to ask them to be baptized. I was super excited because its been a minute since I had the opportunity to do that. So at the end of the lesson I asked them if they wanted to be baptized and they all said they wanted to! Way better than the last time I asked that question. They are supposed to get baptized on the 28th. Pray it all goes through and pray that I get to go to it! It is a dad, his 17 year old son and two teenage daughters. The mom is already a member.
Friday our stake had a Mexican Independence day party. Now that day we were supposed to stay inside, but Elder Hickey decided we'd at least go to our food appointment and then maybe go to the party. Well after the food, I felt awful. It wasn't like stomach sick I just suddenly had a headache and felt super exhausted. It was kind of just out of nowhere, so I told Elder hickey that I was going to take a 10 minute nap. Cut to 2 hours later. Yeah so I don't know what was wrong with me, but I laid down and was out. Well we decided to still go to the party, but just late. Except for we got there and the party was just about to start. Elder Hickey misread the invitation, so my 2 hour nap saved us from being stuck at our stake center for forever with nothing to do.
Saturday we were finally able to work, but every lesson fell through. Our ward also had a party that day, so we went to that too. It was pretty fun.
Sunday once again everything fell through. Super sad, but we did end up going to another area to go sleep at those Elders house because our P-day plans were starting really early the next day.
Monday we woke up too early and started a hike. The hike was called Cerro de la Bufa in Villa del Carbon. The taxi took us to the edge of the city of La Esperanza. We walked through the city to the start of the hike.
A "2-3 mile hike". I'll just say it wasn't 2-3 miles and my feet are way tired.
It was about 11 miles!
